If you have just been through a divorce, there are some things that you should keep in mind when you start to date again. After a divorce, it can be rather intimidating to start dating again. It may be pretty hard starting to meet other people again. Some people say that after a divorce they no longer know how to go about dating, or perhaps the thrill of the hunt is gone. Insecurity is the driving force behind this line of thought. When you are hurt by your former partner, you may not feel like you can get started again. You end up with a lack of confidence, and thus you may feel that you are not able to interest anyone new. It will take work, but you can do it. Only get back into dating if you are doing it for the right reasons. Though various family members and friends may try to push you back into dating, don't let their good intentions move you before you are ready. Remember, you and your former spouse are separate people, and thus you do not have to feel like you should start dating again because they are. If you do rush into a new relationship, it will most likely fail. Being nervous when you start to date again is normal. You should not avoid dating because you are nervous. Keep in mind that being nervous does not mean that you are not ready to date. In this case, nervousness comes with the territory. The more practice you get the easier that dating will become. You might be concerned that you are clueless as to where you should go to meet new people. The bar scene is not really appealing at this stage in your life. You may also think that your social circle contains no love interests, and you are probably right. Usually couples who are married find company from other couples of the same type. None of these reasons should make you despair. Alternatives exist if you want to avoid the clichs of blind dates and bars. One of the most popular alternatives is online dating. There is little threat and work involved in this method, and you will probably feel better about getting back into dating this way. Finally, keep in mind that you should not expect too much right off the bat. Don't get to intense about finding the perfect partner to settle down with. While this is your ultimate goal, don't rush it. It is important to have fun while dating, and consider the process as a way to expand your social connections. If you don't have success right away, don't give up. Chalk bad dates up to nothing more than learning experiences or funny stories you can use to entertain your friends. Remember that you have a lot to offer to the right man or woman, and don't settle for someone who doesn't make you happy! Getting back into dating after a divorce doesn't need to be scary - with the right attitude, it can be fun and exciting!
