If you were searching for a wake-up call to push you to quit smoking for good, you've found it. Here are Some Facts to Start Things Off: -Around the World, tobacco usage causes more than 5 million deaths a year -Current statistics show that tobacco usage will cause more than 8 million deaths yearly by 2030 -Cigarette smoking is the most preventable cause of death in the USA -In the United States, cigarette smoking is liable for approx. one in five deaths annually, or approx. 438,000 deaths annually There is no doubt smoking kills. On average, those who smoke die 13 to 14 years earlier than nonsmokers! That equates to 12-14 minutes being stripped from your life with every cigarette! Each and every one of those cigarettes you smoke is bringing you closer and closer to an early death. Some Additional Reasons to Quit Smoking for Good: -Smoking makes you more irritable and argumentative, in part due to subconscious knowledge of the prior mentioned points -A link was found between smoking and brain damage/premature senility -Food does not taste as good for smokers. When a smoker's nasal passage is under the effects of the myriad of chemical products found in cigarettes their ability to savor different tastes or aromas is lessened. -If you smoke, your body will require more sleep than a non-smoker. Additionally, smokers don't sleep as good as non-smokers -Smokers find themselves sick more often than non-smokers. The average smoker misses 7 1/2 work days per year in comparison to 4 1/2 for the non-smoker This is just a sampling of a much bigger list of issues. There are many more reasons to quit the habit once and for all. We may realize smoking is not healthy, but it helps to stop and think about all these statistics to wake us up to the severity of what we are truly doing to ourselves.
