More than half of America's population suffers from a hidden disease called "obesity". And this "silent" killer can actually shorten the life span of an average young adult by 5 years. If you have been overweight for most of your life, then you are probably an unsuspecting candidate. There has been much talk about low calorie diets particularly 1200 calorie diets which are often used by some people trying to lose weight. Although people use this kind of diet, we should all keep in mind that 1200 calorie diets should not be used for long term weight loss purposes. Unfortunately, 1200 calorie diets and other calorie restrictive diets are only advisable to be used to jump start a weight loss program and not to be used for a long term basis. If you use this type of diet for the long term, you will soon feel the weight of losing the needed energy and the effectiveness of the diet will diminish. The idea with calorie diets is restrict food intake and shock your body to lose weight but if you stay within the 1200 calorie diet for a long time, your body will soon counter this and you will stop losing weight while you start storing the small amount of food as fat. After your body adapts to the new diet, your body will send off signals to your brain to slow down it's metabolism. Not only that, your brain will direct your body to store some amounts of the food you take as "fat", which it thinks will be needed for the "rainy days". Most of us do not know that losing the weight and gaining it right back is actually doing more harm to our body. The process of gaining the weight back is more dangerous than remaining overweight because in this process, the fats are being deposited to the different organs of our body. Using 1200 calorie diets are ideal only during the initial phase of a weight loss plan. You should never forget to add modifications to this diet plan once you see the benefits of the program. Once you start losing weight, you should also start looking for a diet plan that will make you lose the pounds for the long term. Choosing the right weight loss program for you will surely spell out the difference between success and failure. Look for a diet plan that you can comfortably fit in your lifestyle and something that will help you lose fat and keep it off without too much fuss so you can stick to it for the long haul.
