Bike Racing Sponsorship in Africa by A Strauss, Manager Honda Race Nation Lets Start Locating someone to fund you in South Africa is a difficult business. This is mainly as a result of the publicity that people obtain in return and the lack of awareness. There are two types of firms you can contact, industry or non-industry related organizations. Industry Companies It is generally easier to recognize, contact and close industry sponsors. They are normally more keen to invest in a athlete because they get immediate advantage through product sales. These people would include tyre, kit, oil - manufacturers and so on. The disadvantage with these companies are that they get overwhelmed with sponsorship requests and in order for you to stand out, you have to be pretty well connected. Most of them also have existing relationships with riders. The other negative is that no-one in the bike or related business REALLY makes profit. They therefore generally offer only product sponsorships and in small quantities. Non-Industry Firms Non-Industry Related Sponsors are much harder to identify, but can yield much better sponsorships than Industry Related Sponsors. These firms include any business including cellular companies, mining groups, or pretty much anything you can think of.
