Chronic Pain "Cocktail"

Sometimes the coventional medical system fails to provide a diagnosis or treatment for a pain that can relentlessly take over your life. Neurological, laboratory tests, pelvic exams, ultrasounds, and the like all come back negative and your primary care doctors can seem at a loss. Typically, neither your primary care doctor nor the various specialists can come up with a viable organic reason for your pain and you keep hoping that some wise, all knowing person will appear to help you figure out what to do. This likely will not happen. You are the only person who will constantly pursue your diagnosis and find ways to manage it. This article explores a "Cocktail" approach to Chronic Pain.

To deal with Chronic Pain, you will need to be the accountable person to bring together allopathic (conventional) and complementary/alternative medicine knowledge sources to deal with your pain.

You are not alone, Your pain is shared by millions of people just like yourself here in the United States and abroad.
A few facts about Chronic Pain:

1. Chronic pain is the nations third greatest health care problem after heart disease and cancer.

2. 30% of the population in developed countries, 80 million in the United States alone, report some form of chronic pain during their lifetimes.

3. Chronic pain costs the United States over $65 billion a year in health care and lost productivity.

4. Seventy percent (70%) of people who seek out alternative or complementary therapies do so for pain related problems.

The International Association for the Study of Pain defines pain as "an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential damage that is always subjective in nature. What does this mean? Basically, it means that whether or not the doctor can find the physical source of your pain. One who believes you can feel it, and it is real.

The key issue for the medical profession is to find ways to stop it, and this unfortunately, more often than not, is to prescribe a combination of pain relief drugs that are narcotic and/or addictive in their formula foundation.

The key to pain relief and control is to find ways to repair damaged nerve cells that are sending pain messages to the brain, and decrease the intensity of pain messages being delivered to your spinal chord. Pain control also requires an understanding of the physical experience of your pain, as well as, the mental, emotional, and even the spiritual meaning of your pain.

Chronic persistent pain is a multidimensional problem and it must be addressed through a combination of treatments, not a single source. You will need to treat the pain through three channels that can lead to pain relief:

1. Conventional medicines and methods

2. Complementary non-narcotic medicines and disciplines

3. Psychological therapy

You will need to scour the world for information that clearly models you painful condition. Use the Internet to find doctors, support groups, and experts on chronic pain. Find multiple sources, then pick up the phone and call these experts, doctors who are scientists, and all those who can deal with your condition and be compassionate at the same time. Pain Clinics have a variety of solutions, find one and go there. Make as many appointments with each one of your sources to get a plethora of eyeballs on your condition.

You are trying to find those products and methods that work in tandem together for a "Cocktail" solution. There is no such thing as a one size fits all solution when it comes to chronic pain.

Research every drug, all natural, and holistic pain medications recommended to you to understand the side effects, and etc. before agreeing to take any of them. Keep a journal log about what was said and who said it when it comes to pain relief solutions that are recommended. Then make a decision as to which way to go, and go there.

You are looking for the right "Cocktail" to resolve your chronic pain problem. Persistence is key to success, keep trying, you will find a solution that fits you and you alone when it comes to dealing with your chronic pain.
