Coloring Pages as an Educational Tool

A coloring page is a type of page containing line art for a reader to add color using crayons, colored pencils, marker pens and paint. Years ago, there used to be a real coloring books and coloring sheets, sold in the market. Nowadays, with the emergence of the internet, coloing pages could be searched online, found in plethora of websites and printed, all quite easily. This gives us, as a parents, the power to choose what coloring pages shall our kids work with, and that's the issue we are about to discuss here in this article.

Besides being a good entertainment for kids, and a great motoric experience, coloring pages could serve in motivating kids to understand and explore concepts that they would otherwise be uninterested in, such as anatomy and physiology, technology values, the bible and even basic math.

From my experience as a parent, when a kid colores a biblical character, the exposure to the figure and her story makes him more involved with the story and the moral behind it. Same goes with math or anatomy.

Coloring pages are a great tool not only when gathering knowledge is at hand, but also as a therapy tool. In several cases it has been shown how coloring pages could help in limiting the trauma of child surgery and rehabilitation of accident victims.

Using coloring pages wisely could help a parent to endow good values to his child and motivate him to explore and get interested in maths, technology and anatomy in a fun and emusing way.

Nowadays searching for coloring pages in a specific theme or subject is as easy as a mouse click. So next time you print a coloring sheetof Bratz or Dora the explorer, Bob the builder or Barbi, try to think of your agenda as a parent. Search for and print as well a coloring page to support that agenda: pages of bible stories, numbering, alpha-bet and even seasons. Whatever you find beneficial to your kid's education.
