Feng Shui, the study of the influence of our environment on our lives, is particularly concerned with the location of our home, since most of our life is spent there. So, just what are the things that we should look out for? According to very old Chinese beliefs, the existence of Sheng Qi around us is very important for our wellness. Sheng Qi, or "living qi" is a type of invisible life force. However we know it is present whenever we a thriving community of flora and fauna. Ergo it is advisable to seek a site with fertile soil and an abundance of vegetation. Instead, abstain from ground that is rocky and it is difficult even for the grass to withstand! Subsequent things that we will watch out for can be found close to hills and mountains It is believed by the very old Chinese that they carry 'qi' from upper levels to lower ones. When these mountains or hill meets a flat land or gentler slopes, the ‘qi’ slows and gather. At the time it encounters water e.g. lake or stream it stops. A feng shui home on a mountain side or a hill located on the backside - will provide support and provide qi - and in order to allow qi to be on your property its best to have a lake or river in front to to stop and allow this accumulation. There is an old Chinese proverb that demonstrates this: "Mountain at back, facing water". As legend goes, 'qi' is scattered by the wind. When looking out towards the lake or river it is better if the hills on the left and right sides are lower The 'qi' can be blown away easily if the lower hills are not present provide cover. It is nearly not possible to have the most desirable situation as told above, now that nearly all of us stay in city areas. It is not the end of everything. Here are a few suggestions for your home in the city. The regulation on plant life is same till now. Nevertheless, pursue the search for high yield soil and abundant plant life. Since ‘qi’ can be blown away, you should not buy a house that it located at the top of a hill. Remember a home that's exposed to high winds cannot accumulate 'qi'. You should also avoid one that it located in a deep land locked valley as there is the danger of ‘qi’ stagnating. You'll also want to avoid a location on a severe incline. 'Qi' cannot grow on a sharp incline, and besides, you'll be in danger of landslides. Always look for one that is located on gentle slopes with a hill or higher ground at the back. The ground in front of the residence should be lower. It would be great if it faces a clean river or lake. Otherwise a playground, field or other open area will do. will be enough. What to do in the case that the ground is level and horizontal? Another fellow's dwelling at the rear can be a good support. Otherwise, some trees can be planted in the rear - if there is space - for support. The gathering of 'qi' can be supported by the trees. Our dwelling should not be much lower than the ground in front, though it can be at the same level or higher. You can always stimulate water by installing a water fountain or pond at the front. "Plants accumulate qi" is one of the other things said in China Therefore having plants in front will also help to accumulate ‘qi’. Do not have a home that face a steep slope and a valley behind. Neighboring dwellings are beneficial in providing the qi with a barrier against inclement weather conditions. Finally, the home is a place of rest ad should be located in a quiet neighborhood. You would do well to not purchase a dwelling that is in close proximity of a highly used highway full of noise, or has a highly used road at its front!
