I just came across this dating website and had a really good laugh: "date your online poker partner!" it said. Oh my, I imagine that many guys play so much online poker that they don't have enough time to interact with others in the real world, or why would such a dating website exist in the first place? At least it would go along with bluffing strategies as quite a lot of people create fake online dating profiles with beautiful model pictures to pretend to be the very pretties themselves. And then, how would you date your poker partner? Could you feel comfortable dating someone that just cleaned out your monthly budget in an online poker tournament? Or would you prefer a warm body that you just bankrupted in a recent cash game? Who knows, they may insist that dinners on you, lol. And there in my head I try to imagine this dysfunctional pair that meet on a poker dating website. They get together as a couple, then sit at their home spending the whole night playing poker tournaments. Later they go to work at their full time jobs and talk to each other in instant messenger only. Rinse and repeat. What a life! While I was still shaking my head it reminded me though of one of the most important strategic components in playing online poker: finding the weakest players online and "dating them" for more profits. So "Online Poker Dating with benefits" for me would be finding the perfect online poker match in order to win more pots and make more cash. To find weaker players and tables that are filled with people that might be easier to beat is not super difficult. So, how do we find that elusive poker date? How about looking around in one of those gigantic commercial databases of poker players ( and their reckless plays, lol ). Ahhh, you say you didn't know this existed? Perhaps you are even, ... in there yourself? Groups such as tableratings.com and others have commercial databases that thru subscription one can get access to. And don't forget the "Buddy List". Most poker games have the capability of adding **friends** to the buddy list. Smart players dont add **friends**. They add other weak players. This is what you do with your buddy list, right? Another interesting tool is Poker Tracker. It can gather hand histories that other tools can then display in an overlayered format directly over top poker players in a room. It can be confusing seeing all those numbers but its workable. So the next time you hear a brick and mortar casino touting the advantages of playing in a real building vs. playing poker online, you may remember the small article that you read concerning the benefits of choosing your poker date. When you are one of the stronger players at a table, the odds of winning tilt crazily in your favor. A Poker date then, isn't someone that you necessarily like or want to take to dinner and the movies. If you are serious about making money while playing poker, identify weaker players who appear to play with larger amounts of money and add them to your buddy list. Unfortunately, there is no equivalent for real dating, or if there is, it's certainly not as defined as poker dating. Bon Apetite.
