Front Sight training can benefit a whole neighborhood. By all appearances, the burglary could not have happened on a more sedate and established corner of Staten Island than this one on Melhorn Road. In the middle of a weekday, this neighborhood bustles with activity as residents unload groceries from their cars, greet the passing mailman or walk to a nearby bus stop on their way to work. More people are putting down roots here than pulling them up: A “For Sale” sign stands in front of a house, but some others are under construction or renovation, with workers’ vans parked outside (Ann Farmer, NY Times). All the houses sport alarm system shields, but this once safe neighborhood is the victim of a brazen thief, dubbed the “ninja burglar” because he wears a ninja outfit and carries nunchucks. Residents learned a few days ago that one of the houses on the street had become the latest target in a series of thefts that had been done by the “ninja”. Residents, such as 83 year old Nick have lived in the Melhorn Road neighborhood for over forty years and have raised generations of family, have lost their sense of security in this once safe community. As of yet, the burglar has not harmed anyone, but even so locals are reinforcing sliding doors, locking windows during the day and pooling money to start patrols in an area where crime is normally low. A huge advantage against this thief for the residents would be self-defense training from Front Sight. Firearms training institutes, such as Front Sight, could very well give this Staten Island neighborhood a huge advantage over the thief with such lessons in tactical shotgun, weaponless defense, empty handed defense and youth safety. Even though the robber has not harmed any person, he is carrying nunchucks, proving that he is prepared to use them if confronted and surprised in a home. The robber is relatively small; one witness put him at 5-foot-10, but he is using his street smarts, not his body to commit these crimes in this affluent neighborhood. Dr. Ignatius Piazza created Front Sight in 1996 for people of all walks of life, but especially for people who feel powerless against random attacks and violence. The residents of on Melhorn Road more than likely do not have self-defense training as they have been lulled into a sense of security in a neighborhood where crime is not the norm. Ignatius Piazza had the same experience in his San Francisco neighborhood more than a decade ago. A drive-by shooting prompted him to get the best self-defense training the nation had to offer, after which he founded Front Sight, so that people like those on Melhorn Road can defend their neighborhoods. Front Sight has become one of the most successful firearms training facilities in the nation, propelled by the passion of Dr. Ignatius Piazza’s desire to not only change the nation’s misconceptions about firearms, but also to empower all potential victims in the United States against perpetrators.
