Getting The Best Customer Service From Toyota

Your Toyota (or your Toyota dealer) is giving you a headache. There's a problem and the customer service you've received hasn't been good enough. Your problem is still unresolved. How do you get it solved?

If you've had a problem with your Toyota and it hasn't been taken care of, your best hope for a solution is to work with your local dealer. Believe it or not, the dealership is invested in solving your problem because they know that's the best way to make you a lifetime customer. In fact, dealers spend thousands of dollars in advertising trying to create trust with their customers but statistics show that the best way to create trust is to solve problems.

But just because solving customer service problems is an inexpensive way to make a lifetime customer doesn't necessarily mean that your dealer will do it for you. First, you have to show them you're going to be a good future customer and worth helping.

To prove to your dealer that you're a good customer worth helping, start by being nice to everyone at the dealership. Being nice will convince the dealer that you're a person they want to do business with again. Even though most of us find ranting and raving make us feel better, being nice can save you a lot of time and money and make you happy in the end.

But being nice is only part of the solution. You want to get your problem addressed by the most powerful and capable person in the dealership. That's why you want to ask to speak with the GM as soon as it's clear you have a customer service problem. The GM (or General Manager) has the ability to solve just about any customer service problem and he or she also has the full resources of Toyota at his or her disposal. The GM is person you want to work with.

Sometimes, even if you've done everything right, the local dealership can't help. It's now time to call Toyota's national hotline. You can find the number in your owner's manual. Also, call your closest Toyota regional office. They will usually tell you that you need to call the national office, but if you're persistent you can speak with a regional executive that may be able to solve your problem.

To recap, when you have a problem with your Toyota that isn't resolved to your satisfaction, start by working with your local dealership. The dealer wants to earn your faith and trust, and they will often go above and beyond to do so. When you speak with anyone at the dealership, be nice. You want them on your side. Ask to speak to the GM too -- the GM has the power to solve your problem and they also have the full backing of Toyota. Finally, if the GM at your local Toyota dealer can't solve your problem, work with Toyota's national hotline and try to talk to someone at the regional office. If you're persistent and you're nice, you'll get the best Toyota customer service possible.
