When you think of decorating your home there are different styles of furniture available for your selection. These are modern (also known as contemporary), Traditional, Urban, Country and Cottage, Transitional, Eclectic, Rustic, Amish, Art Deco and Colonial. Traditional furniture is full of ornamental carving and has a grand appearance. They are generally made using dark wood. Queen Anne, Chippendale, Hepplewhite etc. are some of types of traditional furniture. Traditional Furniture generally refers to specific time period in history. When we talk of Victorian furniture, we would be talking of furniture made during the reign of Queen Victoria of Great Britain during the mid and late nineteenth century. To decorate a room with a single particular style requires lots of effort and the result would appear to be rigid in form and style. In the designs of traditional furniture, gentle curves tend to mix with horizontal and vertical axis. An example of traditional design could be a desk with curved and clawed legs with a very orderly line to the tabletop. Colors used in traditional furniture are neither too bright nor too much subdued. But, they could be a little bit darker or lighter in shade. Traditional furniture is generally made of hardwood, such as cherry and mahogany, and has fine carved details, with inlays. These furniture pieces are usually heavy and dark in color. The styles of furniture vary and the range of furniture periods goes from the Renaissance to the Victorian era. This time period includes Queen Anne furniture with its curved legs and smooth lines, Baroque furniture with it ornate designs, and Chippendale with its cabriole legs, ball-and-claw foot, and broken pediment scroll top on tall case pieces. One great advantage of choosing traditional furniture is that you could mix and match different pieces of furniture of different period without any problem. Only, wood color should match and they should contain similar amount of ornamentation. By decorating your room using traditional furniture and lighting, you would be able to take refuge from the harsh, bright lights and hard edges of modern life. Traditional furniture would provide lots of soft curves and old world warmth and provide that classic feeling. The category of traditional furniture covers a number of centuries. Some of this traditional furniture would look quite formal with its massive proportions and rigid and elaborate detail. They may not create comfortable and relaxed atmosphere which we would expect from these furniture. This furniture should have more curves to create the proper ambience. Therefore, to create that classic look in your room to provide that relaxed atmosphere, you will have to use traditional furniture and lighting to get the desired effect.
