Goji Berry Information Cordially Explained

The wonder fruit that has many health fanatics talking is the Goji berry. A Goji berry, also referred to as a Wolfberry, is something to be held as a "super" fruit. After all, it has many astounding effects on the human body that few other vitamins or fruits do. The fruit is a dark red in color, and rather sweet tasting. To find the berry in question, one doesn't have to look especially hard, with much thanks going to the Internet for easy access to the berry. But growing the berry can be tough for farmers, and thus, much of the Goji berry supply will be coming from the north-western region of China for many years to come.

Some of the best benefit to come from the Goji berry is the fact that it helps the liver and kidney remain healthy and resistant to negative impacts. Other types of eye diseases are also said to be treated by consumption of the Goji berry. The China people as a whole digest the berry very commonly, claiming that the berry helps one stay healthy and energetic, not to mention young and visually appealing. And as Chinese studies go, there have indeed been some results that would claim that Goji berries do indeed have anti-aging effects for those who consume them. After all, the "super" fruit has a big name to live up to!

When looking for scientific proof that the Goji berry does have anti-aging effects, doubters can look at the ORAC content of the Goji berry. ORAC, or Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity, is the measure of anti-oxidants in a certain food or consumable item. This measuring scale was created by the United States Department of Agriculture, and has been used to give the Goji berry a score of 3,472 ORAC units- meaning it is extremely high in anti-oxidant value. And as we all well know, anti-oxidants are important in the anti-aging process.

When we refer to the Goji berry as a super fruit, we are using the term used by Time Magazine in July of 2006. This issue of Time was laden with an article on the Goji berry, in which stated the many benefits of the Goji berry and naming it the "Super fruit" of the year. Thus, the term "super fruit" has since been used to refer to the berry in question. Since publishing the article, many Western countries have begun to consume the berry on a regular basis.

Goji berries have other types of vitamins and minerals, including but not limited to; potassium, iron, zinc, calcium, selenium, riboflavin, and vitamin C. These are very valuable minerals for the human body, and should be consumed on a regular basis.

Another benefit of the goji berry is the fact that they contain what are called polysaccharides. These are natural carbohydrates that have very powerful properties on the human body. They have been known to repel some types of cancerous properties, grow leukemia cells, and even make some types of cancer drugs much more effective. In this case, it's great for a cancer victim to invest in Goji berries so as to reap the benefits of a healthier body overall.

There are other side effects of the Goji berry that makes it especially helpful for sexual impotency or lack of energy. Still others use the Goji berry to help against the horrible prospect of being infertile. In either case, the Goji berry can help give many their life back.

Goji Berries can be used in many ways. Like other dried fruits, goji berries can be added to smoothies, nuts and seeds, trail mix, muesli, breakfast cereals, porridge and yoghurt. Or, simply eat by the handful as they are, as a wonderful nutritious and healthy snack! Although they are best eaten in their raw state to maintain potency, they can also be used as an ingredient in cakes, cookies, snack bars etc or made into a delicious tea. We like to soak them in different juices. A 10-30g serving (a small handful) is recommended as a good daily intake, although you can eat as many as you like!
