How To Get Rid Of Genital Warts Effectively

By: Ray Lam

There is serious concern amongst sexual health experts about the rise in cases of genital warts; affecting the genitalia of both sexes they can even infect the anus. They are the result of one of the forms of human papilloma virus or abbreviated to HPV that are transmitted sexually, even orally and are actually a virus. As genital warts can be found inside the sexual organs as well as outside it is entirely possible the person who has them, may not actually know and will infect someone else and even condoms do not always work.

Contact with an affected person is no guarantee they will spread immediately because they may not develop for months or sometimes many years. The person who contracts them however, becomes a silent carrier and that is how this disease is spreading rampantly in today's world. The strain that causes ano-genital warts is called HPV6 (human papilloma virus 6) but this is only one of over different types of HPV virus. Although outer warts can be easily seen, women who develop them inside their genitalia may not be seen until a doctor examines the site.

The problem is made worse by the environment that genital warts use to multiply, damp and moist areas; and this is exactly what they find in and around a woman's genitals, plus some discharge may be present. One of the safest methods of wart removal is the application of very cold liquid nitrogen by a doctor or dermatologist; however it often takes a few applications before the skin and its tissue are destroyed. Removal by liquid nitrogen is quite painless but even so it is not always possible to use this process owing to the area to be treated.

Sometimes these days lasers are used to remove warts but often a doctor will prefer to use electro-cautery although a minor surgical procedure cannot be rules out. Eradicating them is not completely assured as they can return after treatment and every method available to remove them is still reliant on the area they are located. Imiquimod liquid is used topically to treat genital warts (and anal) as it helps the body's immune system to fight the virus and to get rid of them but it does not kill the virus and new infections can still appear when imiquimod is being used.

Unfortunately imiquimod cannot always be used and in particular it is not to be administered when a woman is pregnant; it also has restrictions on it's use inside the vagina and on the genitals or when the skin around the area is inflamed. Like all medications, imiquimod has side effects and if these are experienced it should be stopped immediately but this is worth discussing with your doctor prior to using it. With such a serious subject, the information on genital warts provided here should not be viewed as complete or in-depth; further facts and advice
