I am sure you won't believe, that it isn't tough to make everybody laugh.First off, allow me to tell you why is something funny from neurologists side of view. When we take meaning of something we haven't heard of in the past, the brain creates a brand new "route'', from one neural cell to another one.

This connection is what we call a synapse and it works like this:If we, say think about food, and we remember that blackberries are food, then the brain creates a connection (synapse, which is getting harder) between the neurons that store the info we have on food and the ones with that fruit. The next time the food pops up in your mind, there are good chances the apples will come along, as well. You are thinking, what the heck does this have to do with humor? It's pretty simple - humor actually works this way!

It all starts with someone telling you a short, common story. Stand-up comedians call this a setup. Now, you're supposed to think about this story in a certain way. What happens now is that the brain connects the setup to the punch-line you think is the best. You definitely won't be hearing the same punch-line you had in mind, but the other one, which you'll laugh at. Chances are you still don't quite understand this, so the following example should explain it better.

The Setup:
What is the most satisfying thing next to being shot at and missed?
The Punch-line:
An income tax refund.

How did you feel after hearing the setup? Surely, you would've said it was either a Bosnian, Serbian or Croatian in the driver's seat. It's ok, because our brain simply works that way, during the setup. You've noticed that the punch line is totally different than what you have expected it to be. This is of big importance as it's the main principle of the way humor works.

You should create the best possible setup, as it's really important. The greatest comedians will usually tell you a setup which will make you think of a number of different possible punch-lines. Now, the more you believe your punch-line is the best one, the more you'll laugh when you hear the real one. If you know the joke, you won't find it funny anymore, because you brain won't be making any new connections as you know the punch-line.

This should prove handy in case you want to make up some brand new funny jokes. When a person tells a story that all the folk thinks about in the same way, but you figure out a different way to understand it. Now, if you tell this to others, it should be incredibly funny.
