What did we do 20 years ago without cell phones? A cellular phone has become an essential part of our lives in today's day and age. It seems like every day there are more choices for phones, rate plans and carriers. By keeping us in touch with our loved ones and business clients, cell phones have made our lives much more flexible. There are a number of cellular phone service providers in the market today, each one has their own unique plans and benefits. These plans are not always the same. Different carriers have their own definitions of "Night and Weekend calling hours" and charge different fees for peak minutes. Most cellular phone plans offer free night and weekend calling bundled with blocks of minutes with a one or two year commitment for service. "Pay as you go" or prepaid phone service is an easy way for consumers without credit, or not wanting to be tied to a monthly service contract, to get a phone. "Pay as you go" plans do not include monthly fees, contracts or credit checks. A prepaid cell phone buyer is required to buy a cell phone specifically designed for a certain carrier. Typically the phone will only work with that specific carrier. Most pre-paid phone services are purchased by using a credit card online. If you don't like this option then you have to purchase a phone card from the carrier, which has a bundle of minutes, or airtime, that are then loaded onto the pre-paid phone. The cards usually start at $20 and go up from there. The pre-paid phone plans usually feature a higher per minute calling rate. Prepaid plans are extremely popular as they help you keep a tab on how much money is being spent on the cell phone. Online shopping tends to offer the best deals and prices on various prepaid cell phone plans. You can also purchase prepaid phones at electronics retailers like Best Buy or Wal-Mart, cell phone retailers, and even convenience stores. The alternative to pre-paid calling plans and phones is to sign a contractual commitment for a specified length of time. Cell phone carriers offer deals on phones and services when you sign a one or two year service agreement. Usually this is when you see phones advertised as free or a very low cost. Family plans are also a popular choice for cell phone users. Family plans allow the unused minutes of one phone to be used by another phone on the same family plan. Depending on the carrier, phones that are on family plans can talk to each other for an unlimited length of time without using any of the minutes that are in the monthly plan. This is a great option for parents wanting to get phones for the teenagers or children. If you are planning on getting a new cell phone service on a contract, choosing the best cell phone carrier or service provider should be your biggest priority. Customers who want to have the best options available should also consider their service providers. When shopping, keep in mind that buying a cell phone is more than just features and fashion. The phone that you purchase should fit into your lifestyle and budget.
