What is IR35?
IR35 is a system implemented in the United Kingdom to refer tax legislation formed to tax so called "disguised employment" present in the country. Here, the term “disguised employment” refers to all such people who receive payments from their service provider through a common link and whose relationship with their client is such that had they been paid directly they would be employees of the client.

This system was introduced in 1999 but enforced in April 2000. Prior to this system, owners of the small companies were allowed to receive payments directly from the clients and added as the profit. Now, company profits could be distributed as dividends, which are not subject to National Insurance payments. Workers could also save tax by splitting ownership of the company with family members in order to place income in lower tax bands.
