There has never been a better or more interesting time to consider a career in the project management profession. This profession is concerned with discovering and implementing the best and most efficient way to complete projects. Good project management is relevant across a wide range of areas, including IT project management, sales, construction project management, as well as countless other areas. The Project Management Institute, or PMI, is known as the main certifying body for project management professionals and clearinghouse for field training programs and information. PMI is also the main source for the standards and techniques of all project management methods, including IT project management. The PMBOK, published by PMI, is the "Bible" of all project management professionals. Every successful project manager owns and references a copy regularly, and it is smart practice for managers and company execs to do likewise. The book is updated often so that it always includes cutting edge methods, standards, ethics, and technologies. Those who are concentrating on IT project management and PMBOK will need specialized training and experience in software and hardware issues along with problems and processes which may arise in the IT field. While software design may have many variations in specifics ranging from building a shopping mall to launching a fast food chain, project management basics will apply to nearly every enterprise. Basically, project management is used to define the scope, time and goals of a project by identifying each part of the processes and assessing possible risks. A project manager must outline a budged, scheduling, resources, personnel, contacts with suppliers, risk management, laws and regulations and other tasks necessary to complete a project. After a project begins, the project manager must continually reassess its progress and identify and correct any problems, preventing them as often as possible. When the project is completed, an evaluation must also be outlined. Project management software has made the process of completing projects much more simple. This specialized software can benefit from a project manager with experience, as the manager can identify the right software to meet the needs of the company. Project managers are in high demand, and the career is one that fits the needs of both beginning workers and those who have been members of the workforce for some time. Project management has never been such an active or promising career field before. The Project Management Institute is the main source of project management techniques and standards. IT publishes the PMBOK, the most important reference in project management. Managers in specialized areas, such as IT project management or construction project management, will need additional training and expertise in their fields. Project managers define the time, scope, and goals of any project by identifying its parts and assessing risks. Software has made a project manager's job much easier recently. The demand for project managers exceeds the supply.
