IT Project Management Training: Managing Projects Worldwide

If you were to ask top management officials in the big information technology services what their biggest daily challenge is, the reply you'll get from most of them would be "project management". Although the success of any information tech project is only as good as the project manager who maintains efficiency in the operation, IT project management training has historically been given low priority.

There are different types of project management training programs for different occupations. Software project management training is very different from other project management training for instance construction management project training. Different personnel spread across the world can work on a single IT project. So the needs of information technology project are entirely different from those of other business projects and hence there are various management-training programs.

Few people major in project management in college; while most universities offer courses in project management, they generally do not offer enough courses to major in. That makes it tougher to bring newly hired employees into roles managing projects. The project manager's efficiency can make or break any software project. Therefore, it makes sense for companies to accelerate their IT project management training programs to ensure that their new hires learn how to manage projects as quickly as possible, to ensure that they are managed well.

Aspects pertaining to the use of office productivity solutions, effective communications strategy, organizational behavior, employee engagement and motivation should also be included in the modules.

When beginning IT project management training, it is necessary to develop a strong understanding of the software engineering process. New employees are usually trained in the management style of the software firm. This allows the employee to better understand the protocols and processes that allow for a seamless integration of work in a global delivery model.

Project management taxonomy is another major part of the curriculum, as firms can standardize project management efforts more efficiently once they understand the taxonomy. In addition, senior managers can also benefit from periodic refresher courses in project management, so that they can keep up with recent developments and best practices in the field.
