With such a high variety of different Omaha Hi/Lo hands it can be extremely hard to figure out which hands to play and which ones to let go. There are a lot more hands that should be let go then hands that should be held. Whether you are playing Texas Holdem or Omaha Hi/Lo you should only be in to see the flop about 20% of the time. If you are in more than that then you are likely playing your game too loose. Before you begin a game of Omaha Hi/Lo you should make sure you have a full understanding of which hands you need to fold. Many hands you will get will be obviously bad hands, these are the easy ones to let go. Most people have the sense to put down a hand that gives them a very slim chance at winning. Those who dont fold these hands will find out quickly that they are using a bad strategy. Either that or they will wonder why they keep losing. For those who do not think this way and do want to play the best poker they possibly can; there are some hands that could definitely save you some money if you knew that they should be let go. One type of hand that is often misleading in Omaha Hi/Lo is a hand like 4567. A lot of players think this is a acceptable hand because there are a lot of possibilities to catch a straight. The fact of the matter is that this is not true. There is not a very good chance of catching a straight and most of the time you will have very little chance of having a low hand. Big Pair Lookout Similarly, many poker players, even those who have been playing for many years, will consider any pair that contains a big pair to be a good hand. Again, this is not always the case. A hand like KK28 is really not a strong hand, and unless you get another King you will probably be out of luck. While a lot of attention is given to AA hands, if you dont have cards to pair with it you again are going to lose. What you want is a double suited hand that has a high pair, particularly if the other cards are low. For the most part you should be on the lookout for cards that work well together. This means you should look for cards that are suited together since they will give you a better chance at winning. With suited hands you will have more options available. This will give you better odds of winning the high hand as well as the low hand, so you dont only have to aim to win the low hand. Players who only try to win on low hands are not going to be as successful. Take the time to learn the various hands and their odds, it will pay off big time in the long run. Instead of taking chances with your cards, make the small investment in getting to know what hands are truly better, and which ones only look good but dont often win. In the end you will be a better player, which will result in more wins, and of course more money. Isnt that what its all about?
