Relationship marketing is not about talking to anyone and everyone you know! This lie is one of the many that the Melaleuca network marketing company has concocted to get you out there selling. Who better to start your business with than your friends and family? After all, as a Melaleuca sales rep, you'll be saving them money and as they convert their products over to your Melaleuca products and on top of that, you'll be helping them and they'll be helping you. Wrong! Relationship marketing works only when you don't have a financial interest in the sales recommendations you are making. All you've succeeded in doing is making your friends and family feel ultra uncomfortable and sooner or later, they're avoiding you. Has your upline taught you that your friends and family will be glad to help you and if they aren't then they should be? Let's face it. There are just some family members who won't want to help you much less be involved with your business because they just don't want to. If you keep pushing your Melaleuca business, they'll get the impression that you only want to use your family and your friends to make money off them and that's not a great relationship to have. As if relationship marketing couldn't be twisted any further, now you have the "three foot rule" to contend with. Basically, the "three foot rule" states that you start talking to someone within three feet of you. My friends, this is still not relationship marketing! In fact, this is a waste of time because you have no way to qualify your prospects. You'll end up talking to people who are ready to join your business or purchase your product. Here's what you should be doing with relationship marketing. Focus your attention on reaching targeted clients and prospects that are looking to purchase or sell Melaleuca oil products. Once they are a part of your business, find ways to relate better to the people who are in your business to keep them coming back for more. Relationship marketing is really about strengthening the relationship that you have with your clients and downline; not as a means to get new ones. If you really want to get new clients and downline, start using incentives as a means to attract them to you. Everyone loves free stuff and freebies and giveaways are a primary marketing strategy that will bring people into you business every time. There are so many ways to draw new people into your business. But sadly, we're taught to focus on the same people over and over again because all we ever hear about is "friends and family". Get out of the cycle. Start focusing your attention on reaching people who really want to be in your business - on obtaining qualified leads. You can write articles and ads that push emotional hot buttons. You can give author and give away a free informational book regarding your study on the Melaleuca oil. Just try something new. Have a method to qualify your Melaleuca leads and refine them once you get them your business. This might mean using an info request box or responding to an ad for a free e-book download. In any case, the people that respond are generally people who want to purchase your products or even look at the business opportunity. Generating a targeted lead is actually quite easy and in fact, you should automate this process of lead generation for your business. Give your prospects information and more information and set yourself up as the Melaleuca information guru. Use flyers, ads and even your own website as a means to draw in new business. You should also invest in an auto-responder to help you provide a top quality service for your Melaleuca.com business no matter what time of the day it is. Keep feeding your lead refining process. There will always be someone who doesn't want to participate in your business, but those people shouldn't be your focus. Your focus should be on finding people who do want to be a part of your business. When that happens, you will find that your business will flow more smoothly and you'll begin to see real results!
