Retraining Schemes

It's a good idea to begin with the end in mind when thinking of a retraining scheme, and list all the things you want your new job to offer. This is a useful exercise even before deciding on the industry you wish to work in.
What core things do you want from a job? Do you like interacting with people; if so, do you want lots of new people to deal with or maybe you prefer working as part of a team.
Maybe you're more task orientated, and prefer to complete projects on your own?
Do you like to keep things running smoothly? Are you the sort of person who gets satisfaction from completion?
Perhaps you're longing for the chance to share your ideas and talents, which have previously been restricted?
Before you choose a specific job role, make sure that the core requirements are a match for your personality. It's essential to get the job right before looking for the appropriate retraining scheme.
Many industries have peaked and are starting to shrink their workforces - especially in these times of recession. It's important to choose an industry with a future, so it's likely to still want you when you're too old to find a new career.
