Sapa - An Attractive Destination

Sapa means sand site in dialect language as in the past it was a sand lot for local people to make a market. Sapa was then further popular when French arrived at this land in early 19th century. As the first, railway was completed in 1920; a number of guesthouses, villas, hydropower plant, forest management, governor's palace, legation, treasure, etc were built up and in 1940 French people made planning for sapa as a holiday center with more than 200 villas inserted among peach forestland same line sand at that time, Sapa looked like a European city.

With average temperature is from 18 - 23c. Sapa climate is temperate climate. In the daytime, the cool sunlight and cloud sometimes overflow this small town then disappearing thus making visitors taste the change feeling with difficult expression. Coming to Sapa in early spring, when the peach blossom and plum flower bloom in two sides, you will be surprised at the splendid paradise.

Coming to Sapa, you can explore Thac Bac (silver waterfall) which is far from Sapa town of 12km, 200m high, originated from O Quy Ho pass peak and pouring into Muong Hoa stream. Visitors can also walk over the terraced fields, visit Cau May, Ta Phin cave, the old rock site - a relic at Muong Hoa valley and it is put into the submission for UNESCO to recognize as the world cultural heritage site. If you are love adventure, you have a great chance to conquer the Indochina roof - Phanxipang peak with 3143m high. To prepare your climbing, it is good idea for you to discover Ham Rong Mountain first. This is an attractive site for visitors with interesting stops, namely: sky gate, cloudy yard, wind cave, orchid garden, etc.

If you visit Sapa at weekend, you will have an opportunity to participate the periodical local markets of ethnic minorities. The atmosphere and view become vivid with colorful dressing of various ethnic people, such as Dao, Mong, Xa Pho, Tay, etc. They bring with special yields of the mountain to the market for exchanging, selling, buying necessary goods in service of the daily life. You can find more local specialties: unfolding silver jewelry, bee-honeys, peach, plum (if in July, August), brocade, San Lung wine, etc. Especially, Sapa market is a place for local people to exchange cultural activities, meeting with each other and visitors can enjoy the harmonious sounds of pan-pine, dan moi (jaw's harp), leave pan-pine performed by boys in combination with dancing by nice ethnic girls. More than one hundred year, Sapa is still strangely attractive for visitors.
