Serious skin care products don't have to be the most expensive, they just need to work. Don't choose products based strictly on price, popularity, or advertising. What works for you may not work for someone else, and vice versa, so you'll have to experiment until you find the right routine. Below are 7 tips for improving the effectiveness of your serious skin care regimen. 1. Product selection -- Choose your skin care products based on effectiveness, not advertising, hype, or price. Effectiveness is a matter of skin type, proper application, and even time of year. 2. Know your skin type -- Determine whether your skin type is oily, dry, sensitive, normal, or combination skin. Different products may be right for you depending upon your skin type. 3. Remove make up once daily -- Clogged pores are a side effect of make up, so make sure to thoroughly remove it with a make up remover. 4. Cleanse -- In addition to removing make up, you should cleanse daily with an appropriate cleanser for your skin. It doesn't make sense to go out and purchase serious skin care products only to apply them to a dirty face. Thoroughly cleanse your skin before applying moisturizers or special cleansers. 5. Apply and use products correctly -- Applying products correctly is essential to the long term success of your skin care regimen. This includes removing make up, thorough cleansing, and ensuring that your skin is warm and damp when applying the product. 6. Change is good -- Well, sometimes change can be good. Skin types can change over time, and manufacturers may change their formulas. Even the weather can make a difference in the way that products interact with your skin. Be prepared to change products if needed. 7. Follow directions -- Your skin care efforts will be more effective if you follow the product manufacturer's directions on how to use the product. This includes both storage and usage instructions. If you follow these recommendations, your skin care efforts will get better results. Choose your products well, test them to make sure you're getting the best results possible, and be willing to change products if needed.
