You should be wary of emails that require you to follow a link to update your credit card or bank details. Once you have followed the link it transfers you to a false but cleverly constructed website, designed to look like the real thing. The moment you enter your information, criminals have access to your accounts.

Phishing sites can only cause a problem if you follow the indicated link, so if you are unsure, just enter the web site address in yourself. Open up a new browser and then enter the internet address in manually. Having said all that, you will almost never be asked to divulge confidential information by email. Contacting you by telephone is the normal procedure if there is a problem. The easiest way make sure is to go onto the official website and find a contact telephone number. Any company that accepts credit cards online will help with questions you may have about carrying out transactions, legitimate ones that is.
