Tooth whitening is not just a good idea, it might be a necessity. Many individuals find that their teeth are quite yellow or brownish or even gray due to years of smoking or coffee drinking. Even after having given up coffee and cigarettes the original zesty, clean look might not return with regular tooth brushing. And most people continue coffee, tea and other staining foods. They try everything possible to keep their teeth white and many find that those whitening toothpastes just do not work. Visiting a dentist to get the pearlies white again, avoids the trouble and discomfort of the home remedies. Those with sensitive gums have found the dentist able to curb the irritation caused by the gels used for whitening. Many people have spent so much money on products that just don’t work. Beverly Hills dentist, Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, uses the in-office Zoom2! whitening system for his patients. The bleaching process called Zoom! lightens the discoloration of enamel and dentin. (Dentin is calcified tissue or bone around the pulp cavity of a tooth, it is the calcareous substance that makes up the tooth, that is harder and denser than bone.) Hydrogen Peroxide is the active ingredient in the Zoom! light-activated whitening gel. The entire procedure can take less than two hours. A cleaning is recommended prior to the tooth whitening session. Then the teeth are specially prepped prior to the bleaching. As the Hydrogen Peroxide is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin and bleaches colored substances while the structure of the tooth remains unchanged. The Zoom! light helps to activate the hydrogen peroxide and aids penetration to the surface of the tooth. “Everyone loves a bright white smile,” Dr. Maddahi, who is a Beverly Hills dentist says, “and there are certainly so many products and procedures available to help you improve the look that is yours. Some people are satisfied with the result that they get from brushing twice daily, cleaning between their teeth once a day and with a regular cleaning at the dentist office. But, when my patients choose to go beyond routine maintenance to make their smile look brighter, I suggest in-office Zoom! whitening system.” Other options are available such as at-home bleaching and whitening toothpastes. “We are most likely to get a more natural looking, bright white smile if I am treating the patient in the office.”, Dr. Maddahi further explains. “We use a protective gel on the gums or a rubber shield to protect the oral soft tissues during chair-side bleaching. The bleaching agent is then applied to the teeth, and the special light is used to enhance the action of the agent. The patient also uses additional product at home to maintain their pearly whites!” There are many factors that can make sparkling white teeth off-color or dull looking. Age, diet and environment are some, but this isn't something you have to live with. Visit your local dental office or Beverly Hills dentist, Kourosh Maddahi and find out what you can do to get your million dollar smile. Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, has been specializing in creating beautiful, natural smiles and superior dental health for 20 years and is located in Beverly Hills at 436 N.
