Tai Chi and Health

Tai chi is an ancient Chinese exercise that combines relaxed smooth movement with a calm and alert mind; it is a mind-body practice using easy and effortless slow motion dance. It is a non-impact exercise building patience, flexibility, balance, strength and coordination. Tai Chi improves the health and the physical condition besides enhancing sleep patterns and decreasing stress and tension. Tai Chi allows us to stay healthy with minimal effort.

Tai Chi is not just a series of movements but also involves the use of meditation and deep breathing making it particularly useful for reducing stress and anxiety. People who regularly practice Tai Chi have reported a better sense of well being because of its calming and meditative aspects. Due to the nature of the movements, Tai Chi also benefits the entire body increasing muscle strength and enhancing balance and flexibility. Many doctors prescribe Tai Chi as a complementary form of therapy particularly for those that suffer from arthritis, circulation problems, high blood pressure as well as stress.

Tai chi views the mind and body not as disconnected but as different aspects of life energy. According to ancient Chinese medicine our thoughts and emotions have a direct impact on our physical heath so it is essential to improve our emotional and mental health. The external factors such as the climate, the seasons and the weather also affect our wellbeing. So Illness is an indication of imbalance inside the body and the environment.

According to the tradition of Chinese medicine, the ?chi? is known as intrinsic energy and very essential to the body to keep you always fresh and healthy. If the cycle of chi is disturbed it results in various illnesses. Therefore the main objective of tai chi is to maintain the smooth functioning of this cycle at all times. Tai Chi is indeed an unique exercise program.

Tai chi practice helps to focus the mind, to stay healthy, to boost balance and to avoid inflexible thinking. Tai chi can be practiced by everybody at any age, it is an exercise for life long well being easily done anywhere at anytime. Harmony and balance bring good health and well being.
