Tattoo Ink And Allergy Issues

Tattoo ink allergies are not that common and when they actually do occur, the allergic reactions are most probably an allergic reaction to red tattoo ink. The reason for this is that red tattoo ink is the only ink color which tattoo ink makers haven't succeeded in making hypoallergenic. They have succeeded with other tattoo ink colors but red ink is still very much a difficult issue.

People who are allergic or sensitive to certain metals may react to inks in the skin by becoming swollen and/or itchy, oozing of clear sebum is also common. People with allergies should think carefully about getting a tattoo because of the risk of anaphylactic shock which can be life threatening.

When people get tattoos, the chance always exists that they will develop an allergic reaction to the tattoo ink afterwards, these allergic reactions rarely occur but the thing is that they do occur. The reason for their occurrence is usually tied to the different materials which tend to make up the tattoo ink.

In order to determine if the reaction you have to the tattoo is an allergic one, the signs of an allergic reaction will range from a localized redness to a rash that is somewhat eczema -like in nature. Most physicians use steroids in the treatment of tattoo allergies but you should also note that just because a tattoo appears red and irritated does not necessarily mean that you are having an allergic reaction to the tattoo ink.

Tattoo allergies can also cause the formation of hives, which can usually be treated with medication at home. Very rarely tattoo ink allergies can develop complications that are more serious. When this happens it is possible to experience difficulty breathing, wheezing, and swelling in the throat area and more.

You should always be on the look out for any symptoms that an allergic reaction to a tattoo has occurred anytime you have a tattoo. Stick to the basic instructions about keeping your tattoo clean and refrain from exposing it to sun after you have just gotten it. You should always remember to moisturize the area at least once daily while it is still fresh.

There are many metals that are put into tattoo inks, including nickel, which is said to be the most common metal allergy. Most normal earrings are made from nickel, so if you can wear those, some tattoo inks may not be able to be used. If you have allergies to metals then speak to your tattoo artist prior to actually getting the tattoo so you can discuss options.

Tattoo ink is made of two basic components; pigments and carriers. Pigments are pretty much anything that can be finely ground down to provide color. Minerals, vegetable dyes, plastics, and metallic salts are all substances that have been used to create tattoo inks. Tattoo inks can result in some really great body art, but you need to do what you can to protect yourself.

Makers of tattoo inks aren't legally required to state what they include or don't include in the tattoo ink so ascertaining the precise nature of the chemical compounds in such inks may be a problem. You should be rather cautious when getting the tattoo so that you can ensure you aren't allergic to the tattoo ink.
