Teeth Whitening Strips : Fast, Safe and Convenient

Teeth whitening strips are a home based method of whitening your teeth and are an alternative to tray based teeth whitening products. Teeth whitening strips are thin polyethylene strips that are pre-coated in a film of hydrogen peroxide which acts as the bleaching agent. The whitening kits come with two different sets of strips one designed to be used on the lower teeth and the other on the top teeth.

The biggest advantage to using teeth whitening strips is that you're cutting down on the cost for whitening treatments. Visiting your dentist for a whitening treatment is expensive, and using teeth whitening strips can save you a lot of money. It would cost you no more than twenty to thirty US dollars per pack of teeth whitening strips, which is far more affordable than getting the in-office treatment.

Another advantage is that teeth whitening strips are convenient. All you have to do is pull out a strip and place the side with the whitening solution directly on your teeth, and let it stay on for about half an hour. It's that easy. Whitening kits, toothpaste or gels, are more bothersome to use. Typically, over the counter teeth whitening strips may take anywhere from a week to three weeks before you see a dramatic change in teeth color. However, this would definitely depend on how often you use your teeth whitening strips and the concentration of the peroxide solution in that product. Over the counter whitening products may have between six to ten percent whitening solution in them.

On the other hand, using teeth whitening strips has some downsides to it. One disadvantage is in the limited size of individual whitening strips. Because whitening strips come in uniform sizes and lengths, there is no telling if the brand your best friend's using is effective for you. The individual whitening strips may not cover all of your teeth. This could result in uneven whitening. Getting around the contours and spaces between your teeth is another disadvantage. Improperly fitted strips may cause an uneven whitening of your teeth, with the more prominent surfaces becoming whiter than other parts.

A similar level of side effects is likely to be experienced with other home based teeth whitening products due to the bleaching agent and / or the trauma of the bleaching trays. Custom made trays, which are now available without going to your dentist, are designed to minimize gum irritation as a result of the whitening process.
