The Best Lakes for Water Sports and Fishing in Texas

If you enjoy water sports then there is plenty to enjoy in Texas. There is a lake to match any need in Texas whether it is skiing, jet skiing, boating, swimming, diving or snorkeling. In fact, going out on the water is an excellent alternative to the summer heat in Texas. If you can’t decide which lake you visit while on your trip to Texas then consider the following top five water sport destinations in Texas.

First is Lake Travis which was first created in 1941. This lake is over sixty miles in length and takes you through the scenic Hill Country of Texas. The waters in this lake are clear and you can enjoy a number of scenic surroundings. This lake is located near the city of Austin which has made it a popular destination for those wanting some outdoor recreation.

Next is Lake Amistad which is located near the town on Del Rio on the border. This lake was created in 1969 when construction damned the Rio Grande River. The charm of this lake comes from its remote location, but it also offers clear and sprawling waters. This lake encompasses nearly seventy thousand surface acres which is spread out between the United States and Mexico.

Third on the list is Lake Conroe which is just a short drive from Houston. So you don’t have far to go to enjoy the twenty-one thousand acres of water park. This is one of the busiest lakes in the state of Texas due to its quick access to the fourth largest city in the United States. So keep this in mind when you are considering recreational boating traffic on the lake of your choice.

Then there is Lake Lewisville which is popular with the water sport crowd from Dallas. This lake has a variety of activities to offer boaters including fishing, swimming, water skiing, jet skiing, sailing, sail boarding and other such activities.

Lastly there is Canyon Lake which was created when the Guadalupe River was damned near the town of New Braunfels. This lake is popular among boaters, skiers, fishermen and those who just want to enjoy a relaxing vacation on the water.

However, if fishing is more your thing then Texas is best known for their black bass. Texas is also one of the top states in the United States when it comes to trophy bass. While nearly every lake in Texas gives you the opportunity to catch bass there are some lakes that are clearly better than the others. So next time you head to Texas for a fishing retreat consider the following top five lakes.

The first is Lake Fork which gives you the best chance of getting a trophy bass. Next is Falcon Lake near the town of Zapata on the border. Third is Lake Amistad which offers a beautiful location and excellent fish. Then there is Toledo Bend Reservoir which is so big that it stretches into neighboring Louisiana, this lake is well known even among professionals for quality bass fishing. Lastly there is Choke Canyon which was formed by backing up the Frio River. Here you can find a variety of natural cover which provides you with plenty of quality black bass to catch.
