The Oracle of Maids

Home cleaning is one tough task that I myself am not a big fan of. Good thing we have a cleaning maid. She lives with us, and she's a native New Yorker that loves house keeping and caring for people. At first, I told myself that a maid cleaning the house is not what we need, but a cook, but it turned out that she could do home cleaning and cooking at the same time. Plus a lot more.

Rosa took good care of me. I was always a fan of how my mother took care of me and my sister, and now that I run my own household, I have my own house cleaning service maid, just like we had Rosa.

Maids are like those caregivers that flock to the US from all over the world. The only difference is that maids, in a way take care of the whole family. Caregivers focus on one individual. An old individual at that.

I remember Rosa doing every household chore possible: sweeping the floor, washing and ironing the clothes, tidying up the kitchen and washing the dishes, manning the garden, looking after the pets and of course, seeing to our everyday every hour needs. I guess maids are handy, but back then, having Rosa is not just to have someone do the unwanted tasks but to also have warm company around us. Rosa made our then house a home. Don't get me wrong, Mother was the best, but Rosa is a very, very close second.

My husband is now working for the CIA and we have been living in Fairfax, Northern Virginia since after I gave birth to our first child. He is now twenty-three months old and a bundle of joy. But then, a few months ago, I started having this feeling of need to go back to work and establish another career. I don't mean that being a mother and a wife is not a career in itself, if truth be told it is more fulfilling than most. But what I want is a hobby, something that would put my passion and talent to use. It wouldn't hurt that I earn from it. I talked it over with my wonderful husband and we decided that I go back and finish my Master's degree then start writing and teaching.

The first thing I did is look for a Northern Virginia cleaning service company that also has a team of maids that we could hire in-house. After a few visits, we found her. Just like Rosa but a younger version. She calls herself Sapphira. Just like the dragon in Eragon but far from it. Sapphira is a sweet lady a bit older than me, six years at most. She has been working as a maid for over eight years now so her experience is not something to question and from what I can see from the way she was recommended by the people in that manpower and cleaning service company, I have managed to get myself a good maid.

Now, wearing my graduation robes and graduation cap with its tassels, I have Sapphira in the crowd with my beloved husband, my dear son and the sweet and good-natured Sapphira. In one way or another, I have her to thank that I was able to go after one of my dreams.
