Why do we keep on damaging our environment? Most of us may say, ‘Nay!’ However, our current situation says otherwise. Lead contamination, soil erosion, ozone destruction, severe flooding and adverse weather conditions; you name it, we’re responsible for it. How can one prepare a decent future for their kids if they have no idea with regard the process of proper waste disposal? Below is an article depicting the destructive force that is man.

Why do we keep on damaging our environment? Most of us may say, ‘Nay!’ However, our current situation says otherwise. Lead contamination, soil erosion, ozone destruction, severe flooding and adverse weather conditions; you name it, we’re responsible for it. How can one prepare a decent future for their kids if they have no idea with regard the process of proper waste disposal? Our backyard represents a small piece of the puzzle. Let’s go big---factory big. Do you know that when a factory returns ‘unwanted h2o’ back into the lake it tends to pollute that particular body of water? Even average Joe knows that. Clear water comes in, it comes out a solution composed of substances known only by those inside the steel walls. Haven’t they heard of hazardous waste management? How about a waste management facility? This is another thing that ticks me off, when they dispose of their containers, said equipments go straight to the dump---without disinfecting the same. Again, there are facilities that offer services such as parts washers, parts cleaners and other cleaning equipments.

More often than not, individuals choose luxury over well-being, hard to swallow but true. Let me ask you, what vehicle would you rather drive, a Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster or a Mazda MX-5? Without even thinking, I bet you opted for the former. Am I right? Do you know that the Roadster is the least efficient while Mazda is the one of the most efficient two-seater vehicle as ranked according to EPA size class?

We are the most intelligent of all creation---yes, we are. So intelligent that we’re able to create new ways to destroy what we have. Are we too cool to care? It seems that way. New factories, new gadgets, new vehicles---and of course, new viruses and deadly gases. A long walk is not an option for other people, they would philosophize that if they do walk, they’d inhale all the airborne pollution. Probably. But who put them there in the first place? I think a few thousand molecules came from the cigarette pack you finished last night and I think a couple million molecules came from your car exhaust. Ice caps melting, weather condition changing and destruction of rainforests, are these effects not enough? Does one need further calamity to be persuaded to act?

We are intelligent, we know that we have unlimited supply water, yes we do. However, we have limited quantity of clean and potable water. Would it be hard to turn off the faucet while you brush your teeth or while you shave? Or better yet, turn everything off when not in use, particularly the power sucker appliances like the PCs, TVs and DVD players. Even if these items are on standby mode, same still use electricity. For food scraps, dig yourself a compost pit. Good source of fertilizer, plus it comes with a free exercise. Try to purchase environment friendly products like organic cleaning solutions, or you may try to make your own cleaning concoction. Vinegar and baking soda, the two most versatile ingredient/cleaning product in the pantry. Remember to reduce, reuse and recycle.

I’m not asking that one go protest against conglomerates who misuse our resources, I’m not even asking that you stop purchasing, all I ask is that we become responsible consumers.

‘Heal the world, make it a better place.’ Do you still know the meaning of this statement? If you do, I dare you to act now!
