Thoughts On the Purchase of a Color Copier

Have you been thinking about the purchase of a color copier? Well the good news is that color copiers are less expensive than a few years ago. And the newer copiers have a lot more features than before.

Tired of running to the copy shop all the time? If so, then maybe it's time to consider purchasing a new color copier for your business.

Whether you are upgrading or a first time buyer, here we will try to give you some tips that you might want to research. New copiers are all digital, small or large alike. They require less maintenance than the older analog copiers. Most of them can be used for printing, scanning and fax. The smaller ones are commonly referred to as MFPs (multi function printer).

One thing to consider is your monthly copy volume. If you only need a couple of hundred copies per month, you might be fine with a copy speed of 10 cpm. If you do a couple of thousand per month, you might think about a 20 - 50 cpm machine. Just remember 100 copies will take 10 min. on a 10 cpm copier.

If you purchase a color copier with a decent speed and all the features and network it to all your work stations, all your people will have access to a high speed printer with many features from their desk top.

In some cases the 2-5 cents per copy savings alone on laser printer costs will pay for this copier. Do the math, just 10,000 copies deferred to the digital copier saves $200-$500 a month.20,000 could save $1000 a month!!

All copiers need service periodically. A maintenance agreement can be obtained from the dealer. These may include toner and developer or may not. If you have a small machine and you can purchase toner, developer and drum at the local office products store, you may not need a service contract.

Here are other items that you might like to do some research on.

* Do you need one color copier or more?

* Have you worked out a budget for this?

* Leasing is another path to obtaining a color copier.

* If you need black and white and color copies? How many?

* Are you looking for a multifunction machine (printing, scanning, faxing, etc) or just a copier?

Go to some dealer sites and look at their specs and recommendations, check e-bay copier sales and spend some time with google. When you purchase a color copier, get just what you need.
