If you're the proud new owner of a puppy, you know that the feeling is pure excitement. You can't stop thinking about all the good times you'll have with your new best friend. Unfortunately, before the good times can begin, you have to know all there is to know about potty training a puppy because if you don't, you may find yourself getting very frustrated with your cute, furry friend. If you'd like to live in a clean house then potty training your puppy is vital. Depending on the breed, this training may be easier or harder. Unfortunately, the learning curve for all breeds is not the same. If you haven't purchased a puppy yet, you may want to keep this in mind and find out more information about the breed you are looking at purchasing. In potty training a puppy, you must have immense patience. Because the puppy is so young, it really has very little control of when it has to do its business. If you keep finding messes around your house, it can definitely lead to frustration. So just this realization that the animal is young, and the fact that they just cannot hold it, should make you a little more clam when these accidents occur. Potty training a puppy is best done right after it eats. By taking your puppy outdoors or to the area that you have set up for it, it'll create a regular routine to follow. You should also take your puppy to this area first thing in the morning and before you go to sleep to help establish this routine. In order to potty train a puppy, you should reward it with good praise and possibly a treat after it has successfully accomplished the task in the correct area. In doing so, the puppy understands that this was a good thing to do and it pleases you so it will want to keep doing it. Dry dog food is recommended for feeding your puppy. When you go to feed it, make sure you do so at the same time. This way it will go potty at the same time each day and night. If you're not on a set schedule, there's no way your puppy is going to develop a routine. This is very important when you're potty training a puppy. Young pups need a lot of water but with water comes the need to go potty. So make sure you constantly fill its water container but be sure to remove it about 2 hours before you go to bed. This way it won't want or need to go potty in the middle of the night. Finally, when potty training a puppy try to keep it's area clean at all times. If it's area is dirty or untidy it may look for another spot that is cleaner. Those are a few tips to help potty train your puppy. Hopefully, you have found them useful.
