Getting a pet is great for kids and adults alike. That being said, a certain responsibility comes with owning a pet. To make sure things go well, consider the following tidbits of advice. 1. Puppy Chewing Furniture – If you have a new puppy and he or she is chewing your furniture, you can use a homemade remedy. Rub a little oil of cloves on the areas being chewed. It is bitter and will make them stop. 2. Antifreeze and Cats – When winter hits, you need to be careful with leaving antifreeze around. Cats love it for some reason, but even a tiny amount can kill them. 3. Homemade Dog Perfume – When washing your dog, it is hard to avoid soapy smells afterwards. Or is it? You can mix lemon juice in with the final rinse water to avoid that soapy smell in their fur. 4. Pets Marking Territory – If your pet urinates in the house, clean it up right away. Make sure to get the smell out or your pet will come back and do it again to mark its territory. 5. Chocolate and Cats – If you are eating, you might want to give chocolate tidbits to your little one. Chocolate is very harmful to cats and can easily result in a visit to the vet. 6. Skunk Odors on Dogs – Inquisitive dogs often pay the price with skunks. To get skunk smell off, wash your dog with tomato juice. Then wash them with regular shampoo and rinse. You might have to do it twice. 7. Careful When Picking Names – Picking a name for a pet is good fun, but you need to be careful. A human name can be embarrassing when someone comes over that has the same one. 8. Nocturnal Pets – When getting pets for kids, make sure they are not nocturnal. Dogs and cats are fine, but other common pets are only active at night. 9. Pets In Pools – Throwing a ball into a pool for a pet to chase is a favorite pastime. Swimming is good for their hips, but watch their fur. It can dry out the skin because of the clorine. 10. Dog Tennis Ball – Tennis balls are a dogs favorite toy. They are also bad for their jaws. Get a medically approved ball at the local store. The longer you have a pet, the more human they will become to you. A tight bond will inevitably be formed. To live up to your end of the bargain, make sure you understand the needs of your pet so you can have a long, happy time together.
