What Is Anxiety Disorder And What Are The Symptoms?

Having anxiety disorders are more common around the world that we think and in general, affects women more than men. In the US alone, about 20% of the adult population is affected by some form of this mental condition. The different forms of anxiety disorder includes obsessive compulsive disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, panic disorder, generalized anxiety, social anxiety and some forms of phobias.

Anxiety can develop from a chemical or hormonal imbalance in the brain, genetics and environmental factors, such as built-up stress, a learned pattern of behaviors and unresolved issues.

Physical symptoms and manifestations of anxiety include rapid heartbeat, chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, insomnia, tension and irritation. The good news is that while anxiety is widespread, sometimes very serious and can impact the quality of one's life, it is treatable.

There are also many treatment options for people who are affected by anxiety. Medication is often used, including antidepressants and anti-anxiety medicines, which can be used in short-term as well as long-term cases and can also be used in conjunction with other treatments.

Therapies, organized by therapist/counselors, are used quite successfully in treating anxiety disorders. These therapies include cognitive therapy, which involves changing of negative thought patterns, behavior therapy which helps to control undesired behavior and other forms such as cognitive behavior therapy and relaxation/calming techniques which includes massage, breathing and aromatherapy amongst other forms.

Anxiety disorders and symptoms can also be treated by natural remedies such as exercising and taking of diet supplements such as vitamin B complex. Eating right is also important to maintain blood sugar levels.

Anxiety disorders can be treated-or at the very least, its symptoms managed-so that you can exert control over the anxiety instead of anxiety having control over you.
