What Should You Look Out For In Skin Care?

Wrinkle creams, unsurprisingly, are supposed to help improve the look of fine lines and minimize wrinkles. How can we tell if they actually do what they supposed to do? Has anyone tested any of their claims? Given that there are so many different skin types and the amount of time it takes for any cream to achieve the desired results tend to be longer, it is quite difficult to tell which cream does the job.

If you want to take the matter into professional hands, then pay a visit to a beauty salon. Creams contain ingredients in varying quantities and some of the ingredients have been proven to work while others are a bit iffy. A professional beautician will be able to give you recommendations as to what cream works for your skin type, also taking into consideration what you've been using.

Below is a list of several active ingredients that are commonly used in wrinkle creams:

retinol: This is a vitamin A compound. It has been used the most, and has been around the longest, and should work. It's less potent than some of the other products, however, and you should take care not to use it when you are pregnant, or may become pregnant soon, because this product increases the chance of birth defects.

Hydroxy acids: Exfoliants that are used to remove the upper layer of dead skin for growth of smooth new skin. Must be used along with a sunscreen if you are exposed to sun long periods of time due to vulnerability of your skin without the top layer.

Coenzyme Q10: This co enzyme deals with energy production in cells. Using this ingredient will help with skin's self-repair. No known side effects however less potent.

Copper peptides: Copper is in our every cell and combines with a protein peptide. These protein fragments are used to repair damaged skin caused by wounds or natural wear and tear.

Kinetin: It is known to help plants grow but besides that it is not clear how it works on human skin. It is believed that it stimulates the production of collagen by retaining skin moisture. This product is still relatively new.

Tea extracts: An old method, but one which has been proven to work, and which is used most often in wrinkle creams. There are not side-effects, or things to look out for, in using this product.

Which ever product you choose, be careful not to apply too much of it. Give your skin time to repair itself, and try to stick to using one product at a time. Don't mix and mingle these active ingredients.
