What To Do About A Painful Back

Millions of people have hurt their backs, and if you are one of them, you can expect to have chronic pain for quite some time after the injury happened. If your back is injured. Research into this problem is ongoing but so far only short term back relief remedies provided by medications are available. The problem with pain relief medication is that it doesn't help the cause of the problem. It merely masks the symptoms allowing a little more functionability and life a little more bearable.

Long term use of pain killing prescription medication is something that should be supervised by a medical doctor as other problems can occur because of their continued use. People can and have become addicted to these types of drugs and have ended up with many more problems than they started out with.

The back is under a constant strain throughout our lives and whilst it is very strong, spinal injury is one of the most common conditions around the world and even sitting incorrectly or having bad posture can create a long term problem

However, back pain is usually caused by a lifting accident or from lifting incorrectly and it is normally the lower back that suffers. More recently people are willing to try natural back pain relief treatments to stop their reliance on other types of medication. An easy, inexpensive method to treat pain and bring relief is stretching; it actually relaxes the back muscles which can become knotted and tight, causing discomfort.

On the other hand reflexology is an alternative medical practice. Pressure is applied to the feet to relieve pain in different parts of the body, it works very well in relieving back pain. Another benefit to reflexology is how it can improve the circulation which helps to ease tense muscles.

Acupuncture is used frequently by people suffering spinal agony by giving them back pain relief just as it has for thousands of years, although, only recently in the West. Traditional Chinese medicine is based on the theory that all people have this energy which flows through them called 'chi' or 'qi'. Chi can become blocked but can be released by using thin needles inserted into various points on the body. Like reflexology, acupuncture seems to be used by people who suffer with chronic conditions like back pain which requires relief.

The Chinese discipline of tai chi has also provided relief as it uses yoga like principles. It is far easier and much slower so there is less likelihood of further damage being caused. The most important aspect of tai chi is that almost anyone can participate as it uses gentle breathing exercises and techniques to help relax the body.

To finish, it is a good idea not to forget the huge benefits that exercise can provide for back pain relief, including those of prevention.
