One of the most widely used sciences today is statistics. Any business uses this science in one way or another, either by trying to compare the results from a past year to the present ones or in order to make an assessment about future results. As a mathematical science, statistics involves a number of steps so the process will be completed properly. The first step is collecting and analyzing the data. The two methods presented above are part of applied statistics. For someone who wants to understand the whole process from a theoretical point of view, the discipline is called mathematical statistics. This is still taught in many universities as a different part of mathematics. The 20th century represented the period when statistical improvements were needed. Social and economic purposes, as well as public health concerns were the main factors that needed these improvements. Obviously, the state was the one behind those fields. Nowadays, statistical science has evolved far beyond the function of serving the state. Everyone can use this science for personal or business purposes. Theoretically, it is taught in different departments like psychology, public health or others. Even though its use comprises lots of fields, one should be careful about the misuses of statistical science. Data search is based on a sample and that sample must be representative for the whole. If some arguments are false, the entire process will have unwanted repercussions. Take medicine for example.
