Although the name might suggest linking the console to the web but the story is different. So let me clear your doubts, the Xbox 360 system link is associated with the LAN (Local Area Network). It is defined as a form of multiplayer offline gaming. System link requires a system link cable. It is the same any other crossover or Ethernet cable. If you want to link-up only two Xbox consoles than that's an easy task. All you need to do is connect each console to a separate TV. Then connect both the Consoles to each other using the Ethernet cable. Follow the same rules or set of instructions as you do for playing online games and now you're all ready to play offline multiplayer games.
When it comes to more than two consoles being linked up for this feature then the procedure is slightly complicated and different. For this setting you need a network hub, a switch or a router. For further information about this networking hardware contact your local computer retailer. The first step remains the same connect each console to a separate TV. Now connect one end of the Ethernet cables to each of the consoles and other end of all those cable to the router or a network hub. Make sure that the networking hardware is turned on before you switch on your consoles. The last step is the same for all, follow the same instructions as you would normally do while playing an online multiplayer game.
The sole purpose of Xbox 360 system link can be looked at in two different ways:
o To promote offline gaming and to provide a background to players who don't prefer online gaming.
o Maybe to take the offline scene to the next level and perhaps for future advancements in the console they might upgrade the system link option by adding some more to it.
Xbox is the first gaming console to introduce this feature. But surveys suggest that this feature isn't making users think, in fact a survey conducted by the Xbox monthly magazine revealed that the feature of Xbox 360 System link is ignored by 65% of the users. Some of them had no clue that a feature like this existed in the console. So I guess its marketing team's fault to not promote the Xbox 360 system link and rather concentrating on the recent developments in the console. I personally feel when you're upgrading a console and making it modern one should highlight all the new features added in it.
