More than 50 local artists are coming together for a one-of-a-kind art show at Grand Central’s Coastal Creative on August 20th for a showcase of all the weird things that make our state so great.
After months of planning and preparation, the Weird Florida Art Show debuts on Friday, August 20th at Coastal Creative in St. Petersburg. Running from 6-9:30 p.m., the massive collective features more than 50 artists from around the area who will be displaying and selling art made for the specialty show.
In a quirky ode to the Sunshine State, artists were tasked with showcasing all things weird and eccentric about Florida, bringing together a display that organizers say will be equal parts zany and inspiring. If Florida Man memes were the tip of the iceberg, then the Weird Florida Art Show promises to be the 90 percent of colorful oddities hidden beneath the swampy surface.

The show is curated by visual artist Stephanie Agudelo, the in-house Art Curator at Coastal Creative behind a successful run of sold-out shows over the last six months. In addition to finding unique angles and themes for her shows, Agudelo has incorporated performance art into the galleries to showcase alongside the art on the walls.
This show will feature a performance by the fire-wielding aerialist Fire.Faerialist, an experience that combines dance, flames and aerial acrobatics for an unforgettable show. The performance will take place inside the warehouse at Coastal Creative, in the center of a room lined with Weird Florida art.
Coastal Creative plans open mic nights
Tickets for the Weird Florida Art Show are only $5, and works can be purchased directly from the artists, allowing gallery viewers to support local artists while taking in the show and enjoying a drink. Tickets can be purchased here in advance and will also be available at the door as long as supplies last.
And for those who want even more smiles and laughs, Coastal Creative is hosting an open mic stand-up comedy competition on August 28th at 8 p.m. Hosted by St. Pete comedian Dan Bakst, the show pits 10 comedians against each other in a laugh-filled competition where the winner will take home a massive cash grand prize. Tickets are $5 and available online here or at the door on the night of the event.
Coastal Creative is located at 2201 1st Ave S in St. Petersburg.
